The Block Button

"DPD Jesus, heed my call. Spread love & kindness to everyone because you don't know what they're going through. But also remember to block annoying people. That will heal you. I wish there was a block button in real life. Those are my wise words." - Idol Oomf

I’ve been called the ā€œinternet angelā€ and the ā€œreal-life angel.ā€ I spread love and cheer to the people I meet, always striving to be kind. But lately, I’ve noticed some using that kindness to their advantage. I’ve had to tell those I help in person, ā€œIf this starts to affect me physically, mentally, or emotionally, I’ll need to step back.ā€ They don’t always listen.

I’m happy to help people work through their issues and lift their spirits, but I need to understand myself better—when enough is enough. I love being kind; it brings me joy. But I’m learning that not everyone deserves it. I’ve been called ā€œtoo trustingā€ and ā€œtoo willing.ā€ I’ll help anyone who asks, trust anyone I view as good.

Recent events taught me to let go. I removed four toxic people from my life just by pressing ā€œblock.ā€ Sometimes, I wish there were a mute button in real life. Sitting there, hearing people’s darkest thoughts, is draining. I wish I could pause, even for a day.

But I love the people around me. I’ll always be grateful for them.

Remember Patients, set your boundaries, honor your limits, and remember that kindness begins with caring for yourself. It’s okay to say no and take a step back when you need to recharge.
